. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Periodontal disease is an American epidemic. According to the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, about 80 percent of adults in the United States currently have some form of gum disease. The condition is evident in about 66 percent of American young adults and 50 percent of adolescents. Chronic inflammation resulting from periodontal disease is responsible for 70 percent of all adult tooth losses (Children's Hospital of Central California, CHCC). It's main cause, according to the American Academy of Periodontology, is bacterial plaque. Untreated gingivitis can eventually develop into periodontal disease.
Other factors, such as smoking, pregnancy, stress, teeth clenching, genetics, poor nutrition and systemic diseases, such as diabetes, can affect the health of a person's gums. Not only does the condition result in teeth loss, but it can lead to other conditions in the body as well. An article in the October 14, 2005 issue of Science magazine states that “gum disease is suspected of contributing to ailments throughout the bloodstream.” Bacteria from the mouth flood into the circulatory system and travel to other parts of the body, causing widespread inflammation.” One link is that between gum disease and heart disease. Although research is still being conducted on the connection, one theory suggests that bacteria from the mouth enter the bloodstream and attach to fatty plaques in the heart blood vessels. This situation can lead to coronary artery disease and eventually heart attacks.
That's the bad news about gum disease. Now for the good news. There are lots of things you can do about it! Brushing, flossing, stress reduction, regular dental cleanings and an improved diet are just the beginning. And according to David Webster, author of Achieve Maximum Health, changing the quality of your toothpaste can drastically improve things inside your mouth as well. Webster is the founder and developer of Beyond Toothpaste, a “scientifically advanced, world-patented, original formula…(that) supports the growth of healthy gums and provides relief from gum discomfort, bad breath caused by gum disease and the need for frequent dental visits.”
According to Webster, bacteria in the mouth can produce some 17 million microscopic offspring every 24 hours. Beyond Toothpaste works by removing the environment in which bacteria grow best. An active ingrediant is MSM, or methylsulfonylmethane, said to have anti-inflammatory properties and often used as a dietary suppliment in combination with glucosamine and chondrotin for treatment of osteoarthritis. It carries sulfur into the tissues for a natural disinfecting of the mouth. As pH changes occur, toxic bacteria are eliminated and new, healthy cell growth begins.
“I had been told that my gum disease was so bad, I would need to have my gums scraped and cleaned surgically,” says Denise Proni-Fitch of Fallbrook, California in a recent testimonial. “Then I would need caps on all my teeth as my gums would recede from the surgery, causing possible nerve exposure…(Mr. Webster) suggested that I try this special toothpaste. I followed his instructions, and at my next dental cleaning I asked them to re-check my gum pockets. I had gone from a 6-9 range to the 5-8 range…The bleeding gum issue had been decreased considerably. This was only after four months! Just recently I had them checked again and I am thrilled to say that the majority are in the 1-3 range. I only have a few (about four teeth) in the 6-8 range and they have improved as well.“
The product is safe for the entire family and comes in a cool mint flavor. Depending on the severity of an individual's periodontal condition, Webster says results can be expected in 30 to 60 days with regular use.
“Learn how to regain your own natural resistant balance to preserve your oral health for life just by brushing your teeth with something that really works naturally for the first time in history,” he says I, for one, am going to give David Webster's Beyond Toothpaste a try. At 36, I have already lost one tooth and have had three surgeries as a result of severe periodontal disease caused by an autoimmune condition. I know the pain, discomfort and expense that the disease can cause. As I brush, I'll be visualizing fresh, healthy gum cells being born inside my smiling mouth. I'll also be imagining all the money I will be saving that would've gone to yet another periodontal surgery. Trip around the world — here I come. I'll call you from the airport!
