War in Our Minds!
by D. R. Boisse
We all have our own views on war and peace. But sometimes we overlook the war which can take place in our own minds. Some people, unfortunately, lose this inner battle to depression, drugs or suicide. It saddens me to see inherently good and gifted people struggling to be happy. Sometimes we are so busy looking outside for happiness, we don’t remember to look within to create good feelings. Inner peace is a human need. How you think and feel is up to you because you are the one who is in charge of your own mind. You must be aware of the power of your thoughts and feelings. Negative thoughts, habits, and emotions create internal conflict and fuel the war within. However, positive thoughts and good feelings create happiness.
There is a desire in all of us to find comfort and tranquility. Regardless of what path we follow to obtain this, we can be assured knowing that our minds and bodies will be along for the ride. A mind free of internal conflicts and a body free of negative emotions will allow us to achieve the inner harmony we need to thrive. Our minds are capable of much more than we could ever imagine. We all have extraordinary potential that we don’t even come close to perceiving; our innate yet often overlooked abilities are revealed to us through self-discovery. What are your values, beliefs, intentions, expectations, likes and dislikes? I call these the “reality bubble properties.” Are you acting in harmony with your reality bubble properties? Either way, you will feel it because they are shaping your reality, moment to moment!
Your unconscious mind communicates with you through feelings and emotions. It automatically references your “reality bubble properties” to determine whether to create good or bad feelings for your awareness. If you are violating an element of your reality bubble properties, you will feel a negative feeling; however, when you are satisfying your reality bubble properties, you experience good feelings.
You can be your own insightful teacher anytime. Remember, your feelings are for your higher good. Get curious. Ask yourself some questions. For example: Why do I feel good or bad about this? What am I intending to do here? Is my intention violating or supporting my beliefs? If I’m violating a belief, then which one is it? What am I expecting from this? Is my expectation supporting my goal? If not, how can I change my expectations for a positive outcome? Be courageous! It takes more than increased self-awareness to find inner harmony, and reaching our peaceful being may sometimes be a challenging journey.
What you think affects your perception and how you feel. Prior to taking action, you may utilize your feelings to gain insight from your ever-present inner wisdom. Remember the power of visualization and internal dialogue, and pay more attention to how you use internal imagery and inner voice. If something you are thinking about feels bad, remember that you can alter your mental picture(s) or change your internal dialogue to feel better. For example, you could be thinking about something that is not meeting your expectations and this makes you feel bad.
There are many things you can do now to instantly feel better. Here are a few good pointers. First of all, you can change your expectations. Just be okay with the current situation and go do something else. You can also alter the internal imagery of what you’re thinking about. For example, visual thoughts include mental pictures and movies. You can always remember to change the size of the pictures you are visualizing and notice your feelings changing accordingly. Typically larger mental images are associated with stronger feelings and smaller images stimulate milder emotions. I have seen people instantly feel better simply by shrinking the size of their negative mental images. On the other hand, I have seen people intensify their pleasurable feelings by enlarging their positive mental images. Finally, you can change your internal dialogue. What you say to yourself is extremely powerful and can have a great influence on your perception. Changing your wording is an obvious option, but you can also change the tonality and pace of your inner voice. Sometimes your internal dialogue may have a slow, negative and depressing tone. You could say the most positive words with a negative tone and feel like crap. Or you can remember to say nice things to yourself and adjust the volume, pitch, and pace of your inner voice to sound more upbeat. Through changing the tone of the words you say to yourself, you can instantly feel better.
Since your body has to manifest the feelings that give you unconscious messages, it is to your advantage to gain insight into the origins of those feelings. For example, we all know that persistent negative emotions promote ill health while good feelings add a boost to the immune system and metabolism. Live as a free mind and body while using your mind to feel good as often as possible. Live your life to the fullest every day! Learn more and explore your talents. Take a class. Hire an expert to assist you with whatever you want to accomplish. Go for a walk, or maybe go to the gym and work out. Read a book and train your brain. Remember to keep your mind open, as you never know exactly when, or from whom, you will learn something new and valuable.
